On Migrant’s Day, December 18, 2009 by the initiative of PHDS and supported by Vice-Speaker of Parliament of Georgia a working meeting was organized in the Parliament on migration flows, migrant problems, issue of reintegration and legalization of the migrants, issue of ratification of the ILO Convention on Rights of Migrants and Members of Their Families and incorporation of its provision in Georgian legislation.   The Vice-Speaker specifically emphasized that the current priority for Georgia is to elaborate legislative acts to support the full implementation of international standards of migrants’ human rights and this process should be, definitely, led by civil society and state authorities. The participants of the meetings discussed the process of conclusion of bilateral mobility partnerships with EU, current challenges and priorities for Georgia. The Vice-Speaker also encouraged paying specific attention to tools of regulation of migration flows. Representatives of IOM, Georgia Ministry of Diaspora, Committee of Parliament on Eurointegration, TASO Womens’ and Memory Research Foundation contributed to the meeting with their own findings and gaps analysis.
